What "Can" we do about this mess?

Well let us look at some real rubbish today.
As of the last National Budget, the fines for
littering have been raised to $2000 for each
offense. That is a lot to risk for discarding
a bottle, can, paper or box. I think this is
the general idea.

Two problems immediately spring to mind. The
first one is that there is inadequate police
presence to really effectively enforce this
law (as it seems any other) It can not be a
deterrant unless we stand to be caught. Same
applies to traffic, theft and murder I think.

What is Right?

Someone asked the question "If law is based on morality,
then why are decisions based on rule of law rather than
what is morally right?" Let us consider the impact of
that statement for a moment...

In a simpler world, an innocent man could have punishment
for a crime, he did not commit, by virtue of hearsay or
simply because he was the most convenient candidate who
was avaliable. Thus guilty men could go free...

The laws, by and large seek to offer balance, by protecting
the rights of the innocent. Evidence offered, circumstances
and even witnesses must be questioned implicitly. Thus can
the innocent be protected...

Yet, is it really the innocent that are protected? Those
who commit wrong, muderers, corporations, embezzlers etc.
hire lawyers, who argue points of technicality, rather
than of innocence. Thus the guilty are protected...

on giving up...

In the past, people merely stuggled to survive
harsh climates, disease, violence and nature.
We were stronger then, more unforgiving and as
some would say crueler. Babies born sickly were
discarded, older persons abandoned, those who
could not contribute gradually left behind...

We were people who had to make hard choices...

As we grew as people, things got better. The
economies grew, people came together and faced
less of the traditional hardships. As we grew
in education and understanding, we considered
saving and helping those who would have been
previously abandoned or discarded...

We are people who now have more ways to choose...

Can this be a HEALTH issue?

A friend of mine is suffering from bad headaches.
No real history of it, just started about a month ago
and has gained intensity. Her vision is starting to blur.

She went to a health centre at seven thirty this morning
and got a number (12) then sat down. Later, she would
notice a number (45) sitting across from her waiting.

A conversation with myself...

"WHY SHOULD WE LISTEN TO YOU" the people cried out

"You should not listen to me, LISTEN TO YOURSELVES!
Filled with fear, distrust and doubt... Why do you
have these feelings?" the man answered

"WE FEAR WHAT WE KNOW! WE FEAR WHAT WE DO NOT KNOW!
HOW CAN WE TRUST? HOW CAN WE KNOW?" people answered

God's words burn...

All this talk about Quran burnings is distressing.
That any religious figure would condone burning so
close a book to the bible. May as well tell people
burn the old Testament because the new Testament is
really about Jesus. A silly argument? Just as silly
are the arguments condoning burning Qurans...

Let us get to the real heart of this matter, which
is not about Gods love but about MAN'S HATE. This
"Preacher" intends to burn publically a holy book
for his own private reasons. Ironically, his Centre
teaches that the Holy Spirit can manifest itself in
the modern day. Does he hope to create a holy flame?

age old conversation

The Commission of Enquiry into the 1990 Coup in T&T was launched on 07 Sep 2010 with the swearing in of the Commissioners:

  • Sir David Simmons QC - Chairman
  • Sir Richard Lionel Cheltenham QC
  • Dr Haffizool Ali-Mohammed
  • Dr Eastlyn McKenzie
  • Diana Mahabir-Wyatt

The commission's secretary is Laraine Lutchmedial SC, and Dana Seetahal SC and attorney Darrell Allahar are the counsels to the commission.

Preliminary reports stated that the CoE's terms of reference include:

Checking on Customs...

A man brings large shipments of parts and stock through Customs every three weeks to a month, for the past 10 years...

Since the past year or so he has been subject to an interesting tactic. Each month when the shipment come, more or less same amount and value, Customs Officers decide the shipment is too cheap.

On losing the lives we built (homes)

A friend of mine lost her home yesterday to fire.
Thankfully, no one was at home so losses did
not include life. It does however include things
that were priceless.

We often take that place we call home for granted.
We complain it is too cramped, needs renovations
or repairs or simply wish it were a different place.

Who "cares" about Health

A man is using a grinder and blacks out, because his blood sugar is
low. He gashes his leg with a four inch dig that is bleeding profusely.
His father rushes him to Casualty at around 8 pm.

When he arrives he is bleeding but he is concious. A nurse administers
a gauze dressing as he is still bleeding. He is then told to sit and
wait, which he does FOR THE NEXT 5 HOURS.
