Biometrics Protested in Trinidad and Tobago?

I was a bit surprised to see the Trinidad Guardian report that the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs staff have a problem with biometric technology to access the Ministry. First, I was surprised that the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs would use biometric technology for access - it isn't as if the Trinidad and Tobago Treasury is inside the building. But on the other side of things, I don't see how a simple security system could infringe an employee's privacy. Is the system linked to anything else? Perhaps time sheets.

The only real down side for the employees is that they cannot come and go without being noted within the system. If they wish to be absent, they'll have to lend a coworker their thumb to fool the system. Is that really an invasion of privacy?

Or is it instead a system that casually enforces accountability?

You hit the nail on the head with "accountability".

Or should I absenteeism.
