The birth of a new star

This may be my briefest post yet, but no unauthorised history of T&T would be complete without noting the achievement of one of T&T's newest batting sensations, Adrian Barath.  At the tender age of 19 years 228 days, he's today become the youngest WI batsman to score a century in his debut Test.  Against a very strong Australian test side, too; so strong, in fact, that WI lost this tour's opening Test at the Gabba (Brisbane) by an innings and 65 runs on the third day.

The world already saw glimpses of his brilliance in the Airtel Twenty20 Champions League, where he was part of an inspirational Trinidad & Tobago team performance.  Before that, he scored a hundred batting for the WI A Team against an English attack in the Caribbean which included James Anderson, Stephen Harmison and Ryan Sidebottom.  For now, read what Alex Brown had to say in his Cricinfo story.

He would've probably had a couple Test hundreds under his belt by now: he was selected for the Bangladesh tour of the WI last summer, but was caught up in the players' strike against the WICB. Given the WICB's track record - Brian Lara might've held Adrian's new record if the WICB hadn't delayed in including him in the senior team - it is only fair to thank the WICB for allowing Adrian to debut this early.
