Having perused much of the social media coverage on the Jack Warner - AATT issue one is left to wonder if the people calling for Mr. Warner's lynching have the facts. Has the Prime Minister contributed to the uninformed rhetoric playing out or is she trying to placate a populist reaction? The ease at which so many have been influenced astonishes me and leaves me doubting my own self.

 

Is This A Conflict Of Interest?

Since the election, I've been glad to hear the dolting adoration of the new government fall away into critical thought regarding how Trinidad and Tobago governs itself. That the new Opposition Leader, Dr. Keith Rowley singled out Jack Warner regarding a possible conflict of interest has created friction within the social networks around me.

Are those FIFA roles really unpaid, Hon. Min. Warner?

While we await the results of the Attorney General's and Integrity Commission's review of the Hon. Minister Jack Warner's holding of his FIFA and Ministerial roles, I wish to re-focus on Hon. Min. Warner's recent statement that the FIFA roles are unpaid.

Juggling ministerial and private association roles

These are the three pillars I've seen so far on the issue of whether the new Minister of Works and Transport, Mr Jack Warner, should resign his FIFA Vice-President and CONCACAF President roles: (1) his availability, (2) laws/rules governing Ministers simultaneously holding executive roles in private companies or associations, and (3) ethics/conflict of interest.  Let's examine each pillar.

Leader of the Opposition coalition, Mrs Kamla Persad-Bissessar, reminded her audience on a campaign platform recently that you should judge a person by what they do.  She used the old adage: 'By their deeds, you shall know them.'
